Hello all, new to PSP & looking for input - PSP Slim Hacks

I just registered because recently I acquired a PSP God Of War edition, with firmware 4.0.5 (after I restored to factory settings) and mobo TA-088v3, I believe. I assume this based on the article by Draik, found here:

Is This PSP Hackable?! Allow me to Answer That!!

Some opinions on the best steps for me to take would be appreciated. I would like to play NES/SNES/PS1/other classic consoles and that is my main reason for wanting to hack the PSP. This is what I plan to do based on research from different topics on here:

1) Update firmware to 5.03 so chickHEN R2 can be run/installed, using the guide found here: For PSP 3000 : A Complete Guide For Enabling Custom Firmware

2) Install chickHEN

3) Install Custom Firmware Enabler 3.6

My first question is that the guide for chickhen says it is for 3000 series, but since I have the 088v3 mobo, is it ok to use the same guide? If it is ok to use, does the method described above seem like my best bet?

chickHEN can be run on any psp. the only requirement is that you have offical firmware (ofw) 5.03 installed on your psp. that will be the first thing that you have to do.

once you download ofw 5.03 and have that installed on your psp, you can install chickHEN. chickHEN allows you to run homebrew applications, which include emulators for all the old console games that you wish to play, except ps1 games.

if you want to play ps1 games as well, you will have to continue and install the custom firmware enabler as you mentioned. the guide you selected is a great guide. it contains all the links you need.

the only suggestion i would make is that once you have chickHEN installed and running you run another program called pspident. it will tell you exactly which motherboard you have. if it turns out your have a mobo other than the TA-088v3 then you have more options.

according to Draik's article about hackable psps, the psp that you have has a TA-088v2 mobo. that means that it is fully hackable and you can install a full, permanent custom firmware (cfw). you should still install ofw 5.03, then install chickHEN, then run pspident to make sure. after that you can decide which cfw would be best for you.

At first I too thought I had the 088v2 mobo because I read that the GoW editions came with OFW 3.9.5. Then I wanted to try and double check sources before doing anything so I looked at my serial number and it starts with HU829, and according to the guide that is in the v3 serial range.

Tomorrow I will start the process and run the pspident to be certain.

writing that guide really cleared a lot of things up for me. i had only had experience with the 5.00 m33-6 cfw before, but in writing that guide i also learned about all the other cfws as well. im learning, and im sure i will continue to get things wrong.

An update thru my journey

Updated to OFW 5.03, this worked fine the first time thru. Next I tried ChickHEN R2, but it didn't work after several tries. Then I tried the ChickenHEN Mod and that did not work either. Then finally Mod 2 worked on the first try... yay!

PSPiden was installed and ran. Come to find out I have a 088 v1/v2 mobo... more yay!

Now I am going to look on the forums here and see what the next best step is seeing how I can use CFW

I have 5.00m33-6 downloaded, can I just add that to the GAME/UPDATE FOLDERS and run it on the PSP?

not exactly. if you are thinking about installing 5.00 m33-6, i would suggest this tutorial:

since you already have chickHEN installed, you can skip those steps.

Everything has been updated successfully. At first I updated to 5.00 M33-4 since that was the CFW linked to in the guides listed above. After using that most of the evening yesterday, I updated to M33-6 using Skyline's progam and all seems to work fine.

I have been trying some other programs/tutorials here as well. Made an ISO of one of my UMD games and it ran off the memory stick just fine. I have never liked UMD media much, and now after doing that I like them even less! lol

Thanks for the help during this ultimakillz, now that I know some about what I am doing maybe I can help someone else down the road
