PS3 Modchip rumors become true...
World's first mod chip for PS3? | Crave - CNET
Code:
Sony has been quite successful in deterring game piracy for its PS3 console so far. However, this may be about to change if a rumored Belzar mod chip turns out to be real. Besides supporting PS2 and PS3 bootleg games, the hardware-based hack promises many other functions ranging from stealth mode (read: to make the chip harder to detect by Sony) to region-free DVD/Blu-ray Disc playback.
There are, however, two major drawbacks. For starters, you'll have to disassemble the console to solder 12 wires to the mod chip circuit board. More importantly, there's no guarantee your modified PS3 will be compatible with future Sony firmware upgrade and software patches. According to game portal PS3 News, this world's first PS3 mod chip is currently in the testing stage so don't expect to see it in the market anytime soon.
All said and done, you may be better off buying licensed games to save all the hassle and spare yourself the misery of "bricking" your PS3.

I think it's possible, but I think IF this is true people will just wait for a softmod tht'll follow the modchip's release

Sony will block it out, just like M$ has with the Xbox 360. Most piraters have a banned Xbox 360 now, *****ing that they can't play online. Boo hoo.
Sony will do the same. PSN banning will start

In a way it's already started. Anyone on CFW can't use PSN anymore but Sony's probably started racing to get the next OFW out thanks to the whole 6.10 HEN thing.

Nah belzar modchip was fake, old news actually. the website doesnt even exist now.
In fact no-one even has a 100% verified pin-out for the blu-ray drive never mind anythink else.
and with the hypervisor running on the ps3(running at level1) that is always running on the reserved SPE with the highest priviledge it will just kick any unsigned code. To bypass this you need a expensive bit of kit, i dont think a simple modchip will ever be able to hack/trick the ps3.
Sony have done well, i could go on and on (jtag port blown, blah blah blah)
Xbox hackers are pretty stupid, they knew how to copy the ofw strings and just left it until ms have started banning like crazy. And now they are releasing a fw that copy's these strings, abit late now tho.

But I thought Sony only makes an update once an exploit goes public. 6.10 Hen wasnt released to the homebrew community. Im just wondering how could they make an update without even knowing how the 6.10 Hen works. Unless team typhoon tells sony "Hey, our 6.10 Hen works like this..." lol! XD

we could try pw protected downloads and maybe limit the number of downloads of the hen. it wont be 100% fool proof though.

Yes although sony now there is an exploit in 6.10 for psp they properly cant patch it, its like searching for a needle in a haystack. however team typoon arent releasing this so they may as well tell sony so they can patch it, personally i think they arent releasing it so they can keep it for themselves and use it on all the new ofw's that come out.
