before you attempt to convert, you need to make sure that your psp is completely hackable. if it isnt and you attempt to install 5.00 m33-6, it will result in a brick.
do you know which motherboard your psp has? if not, download and run pspident. it will allows you to see which mobo you have.
you can get pspident here:
PSPident 0.4 - Find out what PSP Motherboard you have., PSP Hacks - PSP Slim Hacks

there you have it. if you would have tried to install 5.00 m33-6, you would have gotten a brick. 5.03 mhu is the best you can do as of now. the only other option is 5.03 gen-a, which i do not suggest you switch to. it can cause big problems. but if you feel daring, you can give it a shot.
arent you glad you asked beforehand?

Very. Thanks a lot. A bit disappointed cause I really wanted to switch to m33 due to homebrew compatibility issues. But i guess having a psp2k mhu is better than having a bricked psp2k.

what homebrew are you having problems with? practically everything that works with 5.00 m33-6 (and doesnt mess with the flash0) should work on 5.03mhu.

AFKIM, PSPtube, PSPdictionary, and SSPSPv0.30 are just a few. I just got my psp and so I'm noobish at this. I researched a bit about the diff CFWs and I'm reading that more people prefer m33. Plus most of the people I know that have psps have cfw m33.

im not familiar with the others, but psptube should work with the current cfw. most homebrew apps are not made cfw specific, so they should work on all cfws. plus 5.03mhu and 5.00 m33-6 are somewhat similar.
just make sure you copy the plugin into the seplugins folder, and make sure you enable it. if you launch the cfwenabler icon again after it has already been loaded once, there should be a plugins option under settings or configuration or something like that. you have to enable the plugin before you can use it.

Thanks for the tip. Just to clarify things, plugins are the ones with the ".prx" files, am I right? And if the rar files don't include the ".prx" files then that means there aren't any plugins that needs to be enabled?

the actual plugin is the file with the .prx extension. that is was actually needs to be enabled. but there may also be important files in the .rar file that dont need to be enabled.
when you download a plugin, ususlly there is a PSP folder or something like that that you just copy/merge with the PSP folder on your psp. any instructions can be found in the readme file of the respective plugin.
