Excuse the complete n00bishness of this, but I don't really understand what the cfw uninstallation process accomplishes or why we're stacking Gen-A underneath Gen-B.
From general principle, once the PSP has had a power cycle, the ram is wiped out.
Other than the files that are on the MS, what exactly is being cleared out? None of the cfws are being saved to the internal flash, they are only temporarily stored in the ram while the machine is running or suspended.
Only one firmware is enabled at a time, what exactly is Gen-B using that requires Gen-A? And why is it not simply rolled into Gen-B?

Even the HEN CFW writes certain files to the flash 0 and thats why it needs to be uninstalled! the majority of the FW is RAM stored but there are files written to flash 0. Stacking them as you so eloquently put it blocks the flash 0 from having the required files writen and therefore crashing the FW.

Really? Do you know for absolute certain that it does write to the flash0? This is extremely interesting. I always heard the cfwe's didn't touch the flash0 at all. I heard that those files were somehow permanently stored in the ram...which of course never made much sense to me, since the ram is supposed to be only temporary. But the experts said it, so I just assumed the ram was more complicated than I realized.
I would loved it if you could explain more. We're always told that the flash0 can't be touched under any circumstances and doing so would absolutely result in a brick.

well, i guess it could modify what it needs to on the fly as it is moved into ram. im not sure how a psp works, but if its anything like a regular computer, data from the flash0 gets moved into the ram where it could be modified without the program ever having to touch the flash0. that is just a complete shot in the dark since i have no idea clue about the inner workings of the psp.

i thought it worked on the same basic principle as the cxmb, it changes the address of what files the psp uses, to RAM I imagine, so that flash0 isnt touched (apart from addresses to memory) and the firmware runs from ram (not all of it just the bits that needed changing) then when it gets reset the address revert as the ofw sets the on bootup. this way they need not change the ofw files stored in ram, simply store a new one and change the RAM address.
thats my guess, dnt know if its true tho, you idea ultima sounds very good (and quite clever)
