is 5.03 gen-a required for installation?
according to the main site, 5.03 gen-a must be installed prior to the installation of 5.03 gen-b. but the pspgen site states otherwise:

i was just wondering if anyone could verify this one way or the other, and what should we tell users with questions about this?

well, I'll tell you my experience. First I had 5.03 MHU, so I uninstalled the plugins I had and the CFW. I installed 5.03 GEN A and then 5.03 GEN B. So, by mistake I turned off my psp, I used chickHEN 2 and I installed directly the GEN B without the GEN A. I've seen a lot of ppl have had problems with this CFW but for me works perfectly. One really important thing is to enable version.txt in recovery mode. I did that and I can play anything. Cheers!

It sounds like you installed both GEN versions right over the top of MHU without first uninstalling it. If so, you're probably going to experience ram problems in the future. If I were you, I'd run the CFWenabler uninstaller to clear out the ram and then install GEN-B into a clean ram.

Sorry I'm so behind...
I don't know if you guys found confirmation on this yet, but I was just reading through the posts and noticed that Gusha tested this himself (smart guy, knows what he's doing ) and he said he went directly to Gen-B, which is good enough for me.
Here's the post...
Accidental CFWE and Gen-A install. How do I fix?

We already know it works that way. The question is whether it's really necessary to install A first before B. We should be able to go directly to B and skip A altogether.

My concern with going from Gen-A to Gen-B is that Gen-B is not un-installing the previous one first (like CFWe does), but rather installing on top of it, leaving both in the RAM together, which we've seen can cause major problems down the road.
It's true that installing A then B might work fine, but it could be at the expense of your RAM. Since the cfwe's remain permanently in the ram, having two cfwe's in there means you have less ram left over for running games and applications.

I have to agree with you vmurph. IMO, I personally think that's the problem with GEN cfw. They don't have an uninstall option (or at least an update option) like that of MHU's, so when you update it to a newer one, like from 5.03 GEN-A to 5.03 GEN-B for example, it just stacks up (or maybe not...).
Now here's the real question... Does it really stack up? (I mean GEN-A and GEN-B taking up individual spaces in the RAM) or does GEN-B overwrite some or most of the files from the previously installed GEN-A (therefore, taking up the same amount of RAM)? But if the GEN site says that you don't need GEN-A pre-installed, I guess we really don't have to bother anymore installing the previous one.
