LOL. Hacking your psp through MMS is better.
You could follow this guide. Go up to the first and second step. Basically Install OFW 5.03, then get chickHEn R2 running.

After you get these done. Use pspident to find out what psp mobo you have.
Then we can hack your psp accordingly

Default Noobish Question

Heya, Thanks for the awesome guide BTW, but I havent been able to find help anywhere else and hope you guys could.

I have a psp 3001 ( ratchet and clank edition if that matters ) with Official Sony firmware version 5.50, I get the jist of what to do once i have the OFW downgraded but i havent been able to find any downgrades for 5.50 to the 5.03, was wondering if i might even ( God forbid ) have to upgrade to another version to make it easier to downgrade to the 5.03 version needed in this guide, thanks SO MUCH if you guys could help, and if not, well Cheers! ^-^

as i understand it you cannot downgrade the 3000 because editing the flash results in a bricked psp (broken) the mobo wont allow it. that means your stuck with 5.50 ofw. there is an exploit for MOH ofw 5.50 that give hello world but does not downgrade or install cfw. you welcome to try it bt the psp gods have not got a cfw 5.50 for the 3000 (and TA-088v3s but u didnt need to know that). the best bet is do NOT UPGRADE anymore. that exploit might become useful in the future and upgrading would remove your ability to use it.

somebody correct me if I'm out of touch....

The only thing you can use is pandoras battery and MMS, assuming you have a PSP 1000 or psp 2000 (not-TA-088v3)

Pandoras battery and MMS dont work on PSP 3000 or Ta-088v3. Please ask thes question on the User help forums.
