Original PSP 2000 questions
I bought my first PSP when the first bundle came out for the PSP Slim in the US. That was the Jak and Daxter bundle.
I have never hacked this PSP, or any other PSP for that matter, but I am interested in it. Today I plan on picking up Dissidia and a new PSP 3000 so my old Slim will not be getting used too much, so if I can I figure I might as well get some CFW on it and play around.
Anyway...I have upgraded the oficial firmware a bit, the last time I did so was when Monster Hunter Freedom Unite came out. Saddly I can't tell you what version that is because I'm at the office and can't look, also saddly I can't do too much searching on if this psp is modable with my current firmware.
If anyone can help me by letting me know if this PSP is hackable under my current conditions, if I have to buy a Pandora Battery or not, and if anyone can point me in the right direction as to how to get CFW on my PSP and how to use it properly.
Thank you very much for any help you may be able to get this Newbie.

your psp-2000 is completely hackable, and you can install a full, permanent custom firmware. according to another guide on this site, the daxter limited edition psp has a ta-085v2 motherboard. that is a great setup, and should be hackable no matter what firmware you have upgraded to, due to the fact that you can use a pandora battery and magic memory stick to downgrade from any official firmware (thanks to your motherboard).
depending on what official firmware you have installed we will need to follow different paths, so as soon as you verify that, just let us know and we can continue.
please keep in mind that these circumstances only apply to your old psp-2000 and not the new psp-3000 you plan on getting. i hope this helps.

Awesome thanks a ton!
Yeah I'm getting the a new 3000 so I can basically have one with all the official updates that I can play my UMDs on and then another one with custom firmware that I can play my old PSOne games on, heck I have a ton of them and would love to play them on the go.
I just checked at Gamespot and it looks like I should have Firmware 5.03.
Do I need to order a Pandora or should I be ok to use other methods?

if you get one with official firmware 5.03 or lower then you can use the chickHEN (software) methods, but if you get higher than you will have to use a pandora, but that also depends on your motherboard too. all in all, its best to shoot for one with ofw 5.03 just to be safe, but any psp-2000 thats used or been on the shelves for a bit should be fine.

Oh ok one more question before I can get home and check out what motherboard I'm running.
Does the CFW install directly to the PSP or does it install to a Memory disc? Should I go ahead and buy an 8Gig memory stick for this process?

if you psp is completely hackable then it installs the cfw (5.00m33-6) to flash0 on the psp itsself. if your psp is a TA-088v3 (unhackable) then you can only run tempory cfw like the 3000s, which would mean although once its running u can change the MS, chickhen and CFWe 3.6 should probably stay on the MS incase u ever loose you cfw.
ultimakillz said u have a hackable psp and hes most likely right (ive not read everything u said)
it doesnt hurt to check! as long as you psp 2000 does NOT say its a TA-088v3 when u run pspident when u are good to go to install cfw via hellcats.

it goes to the system memory in the psp. the only reason to get an 8gb it to hold more stuff. cfw can be installed from as small a mem stick as 512mb.

Well crap!
Checked my PSP and I learned that I must have stupidly upgraded to the 5.50 firmware. I'm guessing that the pandora battery and memory card are my only means of back tracking then yes?
Can I still run the chickHen and pspident with the 5.5 firmware or will I need to use the pandora before this as well? Thanks again for helping me out!
Here come a few more questions.
I'm looking at the Pandora Batteries and magical memory sticks now. Is there any reason to get the LED Pandora Battery over the normal one? Is the battery something I am going to leave in at all times or will I put the normal battery back in? It says that it will make the system run in recovery mode every time I turn the system on, would that mean I need to leave the system on at all times or would there be a way to turn it on and off without issues and being able to get right into the custom firmware.
Again I am sorry for all the extremely Newbish questions, this is the first time I have ever attempted anything like this and I would like to get as many things cleared in my mind as possible. Thanks again!
