Arrow Problem with PSX game on PSP

Hey, "I lent my friend my PSP one day and he upgraded my 3.90 m33-6 to 5.00 m33-6." And it's true. Boy did I want to smack him sideways... Anyways, I am currently playing Parasite Eve on the PSP and I am literally at the end of the game right before the last boss fight but it freezes during the FMV that plays before it.

I am running 5.00 m33-6 and I've checked the PSX-PSP compatibility and there is no mention of my problem on the site. I've clocked 15 hours on the damn game and I really want to see it through to the end, on my own merits (so I won't use anyone's uber-awesome-supersweet-betterthanyours save file to beat the game).

I am currently running through different pops, descending from 4.01 to right now 3.72. I've tried changing disc speeds and also opening the controller settings like I do initially to get past the PS logo intro. I am desperate so I would like to know what it is that I can do to play through the bloody FMV and finally beat the game once and for all.

Thanks for any help.

PSX on PSP Compatibility List - TheGamersPress
Good for checking what version works with what.

Apparently 4.01 M33-2 works just fine.

Thanks for the reply.

I had a feeling it was an issue of downgrading, so I searched online for how to do it (google). Most of what I found didn't really explain anything and some other stuff I had to pay for, yeah *&%$ing right... anybody who managed to put CFW on their PSP and bought anything afterward should just (insert method of self-destruction).

I've never contemplated downgrading, but my well-intentioned friend, whom I love dearly, accidentally upgraded to 5.00 m33-6. So here I am. I tried another google search with PSH as the header and I found this ebook guide:

PSP Downgrade & Upgrade Ebook, PSP Hacks - PSP Slim Hacks

I am going to read it and see what to do from there.

Are there any things I should keep in mind while I do this? I'll probably be back with more questions after reading the guide.

Thanks again.

im not sure that downgrading would solve your problem. 5.00 m33-6 is the latest version of the m33 cfw. it shouldnt have an effect on the game you are playing.

the versions of pops you used when you had 3.90 m33-6 is available on 5.00 m33-6 via popsloader. again, i dont think the cfw is to blame for this problem.

Well don't leave me hanging ultima, what other alternative, if any, would you suggest?

As Dokioto said, 4.01 m33-2 is ideal to play the game I need, but you think it's not a matter of downgrading?

i believe he ment the 4.01 version of pops works perfectly. thats what the psx on psp compatability list states. i would also try version 3.71.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the series of numbers on the left of the "Notes" column the PSP's firmware, and anything thereafter is information on the compatibility and the use of w/e level of pops?

As I stated in my first post, I've used pops 4.01 to 3.72, but to no avail. So I doubt just relying solely on pops would solve my problem on 5.00 m33-6.

It does say "4.01 M33-2" as opposed to just "4.01" or "4.01 pops". Then again I am still pretty much a novice and I may be misunderstanding the terminology, but to me anything with "m33-#" is firmware, not pops.

Red face

Your both right in that the CFW should not affect the PSX game your playing
only the version of POPs should as its the emulator, However on the same note not all combinations of POPs and different CFW will work well with every game look at FF7 for a good example .

Downgrading may or may not solve your problem . It may be worth trying but have you check all other possibilitys such as has the game been made sucessfully ,did you apply the patches?, is the disc damaged? etc.....

I don't know what you're talking about Dot, I got the .eboot from a site with the words bit and gamer in it. I wouldn't know what to do with my own copy of the game anyways. I think it's a reliable source so there shouldn't be any problem with the Parasite Eve game (2-disc eboot). It played flawlessly up to that one point near the end.

I'll consider your words before I go through with the downgrade. Is there anything I can do now with the current eboot?

the reason it says 4.01 m33-2 is because they are using the pops native to that cfw. since we cant be expected to change cfws to play different games, we use the different versions of pops to emulate the native pops of different versions of cfw.

so, since it has been tested on 4.01 m33-2, then it should work equally well on pops version 4.01, which is the emulated pops version native to 4.01 m33-2.

but there are many reasons why something like this isnt working correctly. the easiest way it to try another eboot. as long as the psx id is the same, your savegame should load up fine.

but i wouldnt suggest downgrading your cfw just to try to make a game work.
