Default Game not working. (80020148) - PSP3000

Hey there, i'm rather new to hacked PSPs and such so sorry if this is a silly question.

I have a PSP 3000 and my CFW is GEN-C 5.03. I'm trying to run Riviera: The Promised Land via a CSO and I keep running into the same error, that is, "The game could not be started. (80020148)". I've been all over the net looking for some kind of solution but that error seems to cover a rather broad range of things with an equally broad range of fixes.

Just to cover some of the things people say first to all questions like this, I am running on no-UMD, other ISO/CSOs do work, I have tried running it with UMD on and a game in the PSP to no avail. I have also tried changing to kernel 1.50 (but as far as i've read that setting doesn't actually work on the 3000 or something... no one was terribly clear on that).

I realize there's a good chance I simply may not be able to play the game but hey I figured i'd try here anyway.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Also a somewhat unrelated question, If you have the space, is it always better to go for an ISO over a CSO? I had a CSO copy of Yggdra Union and the sound was awful and crackly, but I used an ISO and it's perfect, what's the deal with that?

change the kernel to 5.xx version
set your umd iso mode to m33 driver
backup your data & format the MS
put the ISO/CSO in the ms0:\ISO folder

even though 5.03 gen-c is the latest cfw, there are still games that it will not be able to decrypt and play. i believe that is the problem here. that error code is displayed when people with older cfws try to play newer games, so usually updating the cfw solves the problem.

however, i have also seen that error code when using a fake mem stick. to check this, select the mem stick on the xmb (either under game, music, video, or pictures) and press triangle and select "information". if it says "magicgate supported" then it is genuine, but if it says "magicgate unknown" then it is fake.

but i would say if the other isos work fine that probably wouldnt be the problem. if yours is fake, if you have another mem stick handy you could give that a shot. you may also want to try re-ripping the iso.

as far as differences between iso/cso, a cso is just a compressed iso file. compression can often cause problems in load-intensive games. i usually dont compress my iso files because it seems like once you have compressed it enough to justify compression thats when it starts to effect the gameplay.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Since posting this I did some more poking around and found at that the game was known to work in GEN-A, so I downgraded and sure enough, it worked. Curious as to why this is though.

Also, I had a friend tell me to have my no-umd set to Sony, what's the difference between the two?

also "ms0:\ISO"

Another stupid question, what is ms0? If you mean having a folder named ISO in your root then I do have that. I have tried running it with m33 driver in GEN-C to no avail too.

I don't really mind having to switch up my CFW every time I want to play a certain game, but it would be nice if I didn't have to, so if you have any other suggestions on how to make this work in GEN-C i'm open.

Nothing much.. sony's one is the official iso loader used in OFWs & m33 is the one made by dark-alex.

I dont think so there's a workaround for it yet.

the only other thing to remember is that if you are switching back and forth you need to uninstall everytime before installing the other cfw. installing multiple cfws without uninstalling can cause problems to your psp.

So like, format my stick every time I do it?

Could I just have two sticks, one for each?

Thanks very much for the link.

Doesn't seem so bad, That doesn't touch anything on my memory stick then?

EDIT: I can't seem to find the uninstall option in CFW 3.60 or GEN-C 5.03, with 3.60 it's just not on the list and with GEN-C, I run the updater and it gives me no options at all.

EDIT2: Ok weird... no matter what I do, what files I run, it installs GEN-A as my CFW... with no GEN-A files left on my PSP at all.... the hell...
