PSP's, is there Real Online Play?
Hi there, i was just wandering, does any one know if there is any game or emulator for the PSP's that is actually Online??
by that i mean can you actually play some games online just like the ps2, ps3, pc and so on...?? because i really love playing online, I'm pretty much an online only gamer. i don't like the fact that you can only play "PSP to PSP" and the PSP's have to be with in a certain distance of each other to connect to play with others.
i would like to be able to get into some type of lobby or something and play random people from every where, not just those that are about 60 feet or closer of me... that get's boring and hardly any one has a PSP around here any way's.
If there is any game's that are able to do this i would love to have at least a list of them, or if there is some type of app or something that can enable this to happen that would be pretty sweet as well.
(hope this isn't posted some where else, also sorry if this may be in the wrong category. I'm not good with knowing most forum's categorization's and what not.)

ah, well i can try some homebrew's then and see if they are "online net play"
but i think it's weird that some game's like... "Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection" is online for the PS3 but not for the PSP, the lobby is basically set-up the same way, but when you go in the online play it's basically working as "Adhoc" which suck's, and I'm pretty sure that a lot of people would love and rather play "real online" instead of using that "adhoc" crap, which only seems good for using with friend's or people that are next to ya and transferring files to them, other than that it's a device/option that's not really used with people around here.
and for most PSP game's it say's "online" but it's really only going off of "Adhoc", i think I've tested about... 8 game's or more i like and they all seem to go off "Adhoc" not one have i come across yet seems use the actual online play(i guess is actually called "Net Play")
but yeah, sorry, i'm just ranting and hoping there is something for it or what ever, cause that's the only reason i got a PSP was to hack/mod it and be able to have a device that is portable and able to play online with other people who have a PSP around the world...

If you have a PS3 you can use ad hoc party to play online, but I suppose that does limit the whole portable feeling you're looking for.
But anyway, here's a list of games I got from wikipedia. As you can see there isn't a lot of online games, but maybe you'll find something you might be interested in.

There are a ton of games that you can play online! Most are "shooter" type games from what I see.
Socom Fireteam Bravo 3 (+ 1 & 2) is the most popular in my opinon, most of the time there is 3000+ people online.
The entire SFTB series is outstanding online for a psp game- Has everything you need in a multiplayer shooter, even mic support.
Official Site: SOCOM.com - Welcome
Medal of Honor 2 is def. the most popular FPS in the PSP world (even though it is aged)- There was usually over 300 people online when I played it.
The only homebrew I know of that has an online multilayer is CSPSP.. A top down shooter based on Counter Strike Source.
Official Site: CSPSP
I am defiantly all about online shooters
Happy gaming!
----Another note:-----
Adhoc is as you stated simply playing your psp with a buddy that is right next to you.
Your looking for what Sony calls " Infrastructure" online.. Which is the true online multilayer that your looking for
I tired finding a full list for you but this should be a start (lol):

yeah, i never really liked the "Socom's" nor the MOH's, but I'm willing to try them for the psp.
well see that's the thing, some game's that actually say "online play" like tekken 5 is not actually online, which does suck but oh well, cause there are a bunch of games i would love to play online with on my psp but they don't actually go online... and i would definitely love to play a bunch of PS1/PSX games online as well. but yeah i know that "Infrastructure" is suppose to be the "Online" part but i never see any thing about it really except trying to use the web browser. but yeah, i'm definitely going to check that all out.
and hey, ill probably get on some games that you and i can play on
